"Well-executed, bold takes on Indian regional dishes served with panache in a lush contemporary setting. Much of the emphasis is on Thali (sweet, salty, bitter, sour, astringent and spicy morsels presented on a single tray), but a versatile team in the kitchen are equally at home whipping up sensationally saucy fare from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and West Bengal. Everything at Chilli Pickle is arrestingly colourful on the plate and capped off by the sharpest subcontinent-inspired dessert menu around."

"This tiny Italian joint in North Laine is located in a converted garage. Don’t expect elegance or comfort (the wooden bar stools around a central servery are bum-numbingly hard) – what you will get though is comfort food: small plates of zingy asparagus with hazelnuts and lardo, soused mackerel with sweet beetroot or first-rate charcuterie, then authentically homemade silky pastas with gutsy sauces (try the Tuscan pork). Pick a table away from the always-open double doors, or, if you want the full works including mains other than pasta, book at their larger sister branch in Hove."

"02/06/2021: This came highly recommended but on reflection it was the Brighton restaurant which was recommended rather than the Hove one however as the Brighton one was not yet open we decided to visit the restaurant in Hove. We found the staff very friendly and helpful but we did find the overall experience disappointing, we ordered the burata to start & focaccia which needed to be cooked a little extra. For mains we had the ribeye steak which was ok and we had the Ragu which was beef shin Ragu, it could’ve had more meat & sauce but was very tasty."

Certainly, Brighton is currently the only place in the country outside of London where you can give it a try and it’s cheaper in Brighton, just.
