12 Outstanding Restaurants in Oxford
"In the heart of north Oxford, this elegant Victorian conservatory houses local hotelier and restaurateur Jeremy Mogford’s most upmarket establishment. It’s usually packed every lunchtime and evening with a mixture of students and their parents celebrating or commiserating exam results, well-heeled residents of the million-pound mansions nearb,y and curious gourmands attracted by the Mediterranean-influenced menu, which includes wood-fired guinea fowl, nettle and wild garlic risotto and the most comprehensive paella imaginable."

6 rooftop bars in Oxford to visit this summer
"Address: Gee’s Restaurant & Bar, 61A Banbury Rd, Park Town, Oxford OX2 6PE. Gee’s Restaurant is set in a unique Victorian Glasshouse that serves a rustic Mediterranean dining experience to locals and tourists. This famous Grade II listed Victorian conservatory was initially designed in 1898 as a greengrocer and florist, but it now houses one of Oxford’s most renowned neighbourhood restaurants."

"To get more of a neighbourhood feel, I’d recommend Gees where I had dinner when I visited. It’s a Mediterranean style restaurant that’s in an old Victorian greenhouse, with excellent cocktails and food, although it’s a 20 minute walk from the heart of Oxford, so you may prefer to get a taxi."

Oxford's top 10 budget eats
"But it's a very tasty leek and potato, the real artisan bread (50p) lives up to the billing, and, I suppose, local, organic ingredients – vegetables from nearby Worton Organic Garden – don't come cheap. Elsewhere on the enticing menu, notable for its excellent veggie options, you'll find dishes such as spiced chickpea tagine with roasted butternut squash, green olives and rosemary; puy lentil and goat's cheese gratin, with marinaded aubergine and roasted red peppers; or organic beef lasagne (mains served with salad, brown rice, potatoes etc.) The location also plays a big part in the Vaults' popularity. It's housed in a 14th-century hall, the "congregation house", built as Oxford University's original administrative centre, within the University Church of St Mary the Virgin, while the gardens – actually the graveyard – look out on to the famous circular Radcliffe Camera library and several university colleges."

"The Old Parsonage Hotel and its restaurant are a somewhat swankier affair entirely. It’s where the socialites of Oxford hang out in town before drinking Zombies at Lola Lo. The restaurant is less formal than its sister outfit Quod, though, and focuses on afternoon teas and all-day dining."

The 5 best study places in Oxford
"This is one of the oldest cafes in Oxford, (alongside the Grand Cafe on the opposite side of the road.. A rather old street, even for Oxford’s standards). No worries, it isn’t stuffy or snooty and happens to serve paninis that rival some of Oxford’s favourites like Taylors!. At the Queen’s Lane Coffee House there are two rooms and loads of tables, so perfect if there are other students with the same idea of studying at this place."

"Back in the town centre, Swoon is another delight, especially if you like your gelato pillowy soft rather than densely rich. Like any reputable gelateria, they churn up new batches every day; they also take their ingredients extremely seriously and source most of them directly from Italy."

Oxford's top 10 budget eats
"The production headquarters for local ice-cream luminaries, G&Ds (other branches at Cowley Road and the corner of Pembroke Street/St Aldate's), this brightly painted cafe – on the Little Clarendon Street cut-through from town to Jericho – does a brisk trade in upmarket ice-cream, as well as filled bagels, cookies and cakes. Having been knocked-out by G&D's ice-cream in the past, I must admit that I was slightly disappointed with this visit's sample. While the flavours were typically true and clear, and the sweetness well-judged, my Ferrero Rocher tribute was a bit too thick and dense."

"The success of the original shop left no other option but to expand the G&D’s joy further into the town. George and Danver opened in 2001 on the corner of Pembroke St. and St. Aldates and became enormously busy serving students, tourists, and locals alike. This expansion to the company also saw an expansion in size and seating space."
